The versatile Kialoa Shaka Pu’u excels in all SUP disciplines - surfing, touring, racing, and recreational paddling.
Used by Chuck Patterson, to win the 10,000 dollar first prize at the 2008 Battle of the Paddle distance race, the Shaka Pu’u is a must have in any stand up paddle quiver.
This all carbon fiber paddle weighs a mere 22 oz and, in our experience, delivers nothing short of supreme performance.
The narrow diameter and pronounced oval shape of the shaft means less energy is needed to keep the paddle in your hand and more energy is available for delivering power to your stroke. In short, less hand fatigue and more power.
The T-grip handle is smooth and actually has a slight forward curve to it that allows you to easily orient the blade while keeping your vision straight ahead. When power-stroking, the handle is both secure and comfortable.
The Shaka Pu'u blade is flat as opposed to the dihedral blade of some other paddles yet there’s no fluttering or wandering during the stroke. The blade has excellent catch.
In the surf, it’s fantastic. The small blade profile allows fast acceleration through the water without throwing you off balance. The lightweight carbon fiber enables quick recovery of stroke.
Also great for propelling bigger boards through the water on long cruises or races.
The Kialoa Shaka Puu is available in standard black as well as blue and yellow “tapa” colors.
In case your wondering, the Kialoa Shaka Pu’u paddle is named after Mel Pu’u, a Makaha lifeguard and stand up paddler who embodies the spirit of the waterman. Kialoa donates a portion of Shaka Pu'u sales to the cause of choice for Mel and his wife Momi, the Makaha Junior Lifeguard Scholarship Program.
We're happy to custom cut the shaft at no extra charge. If you'd prefer to cut it yourself, you still need to let us know what size you need so that we send you one that can be cut to your desired length.
